We are working to find ways to mitigate the damage done to our city when I-5 was constructed through our downtown core. Some of the most obvious solutions are to encourage the development of additional civic/public buildings over the freeway, such as the Seattle Convention Center. Another would be to create a downtown park, which Seattle lacks, over the freeway and/or to expand the existing Freeway Park. One of the simplest and least expensive ways would be to simply green up the existing overpasses to make them more bicycle and pedestrian friendly and/or to create new freeway crossings specifically for bicycles and/or pedestrians.
Given its width, the Yesler Street overpass would be the simplest and least expensive to rectify. If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to peruse this site. If you would like to get involved and/or assist in our efforts please send an email to email@example.com.
